Switch Identity

One of the things that I found in Outlook Express that I really like is the Switch Identity or Identities. With this function of Outlook Express you can set up multilble email Accounts and get your email in its own inbox without sorting through it all to find just one email.

So, let's say that you have a home business and you do not want your personal email to be mixed in with your business email. Also your wife and children do not want their email mixed in with your email. Problem solved! What you need to do is click on File, Identities, Add New Identity when you click on Add new Identity a window will pop up and you will type in a name for the mailbox. Once you have the name typed in click on the OK button. The next window that will pop up will ask if you want to switch to the new mailbox the you just created and click Yes.

At this point you will need to create a new account like you did in "How to set up and Configure Outlook Express." Once you have the account created the first thing that you need to do is remove the preview pane. The reason that you want to do this is so that when you get an email from anyone that has a virus attached it will not be able to infect you computer unless you open it.

Now this is a good rule to live by concerning email, if you get an email from anyone that you do not know. Do NOT open it especially if it has an attachment just click on it once and delete it.

Now to the next step creating folders for all that email that you will be getting. Once you have the folders created you will need to set up filters so that the incoming email can be sorted and sent to the correct folder.
